Fassung privacy-2026-10-01, gültig ab 1. Oktober 2026.

- Update herunterladen, VB-CABLE herunterladen
App zwei technische Dateien in deinen Anwendungsdatenordner (%APPDATA%\AudioBalance):
- deine Nachricht und, falls angegeben, deinen Namen;
- deine E-Mail-Adresse, damit wir antworten können; bist du angemeldet, die Adresse deines Kontos;
- App-Version, Installationsweg (Website oder Microsoft Store), Sprache und, falls du von der Bewertungsseite kamst, deine Sternzahl;
- die Gerätekennung deines PCs, gespeichert nur als nicht rückrechenbarer Prüfwert;
Was in diesen Dateien steht: Die Messdatei enthält nur Zahlen (Lautheit, Verstärkung, Zielwert, Pufferzustand, zehnmal pro Sekunde), ohne jeden Namen.
Rechtsgrundlage: Art. 6 Abs. 1 lit. a DSGVO.
Rechtsgrundlage: Art. 6 Abs. 1 lit. a DSGVO (Einwilligung).
Kein Ton, kein Inhalt, keine Programmnamen. Zweck: das KI-Modell der Regelung trainieren.
Rechtsgrundlage: Art. 6 Abs. 1 lit. a DSGVO (Einwilligung).
Rechtsgrundlage: Art. 6 Abs. 1 lit. a DSGVO.
Rechtsgrundlage: Art. 6 Abs. 1 lit. f DSGVO.
Schriften
Kein Tracking, keine Analysedienste
- Cloudflare, Inc. (USA/EU): Hosting, Datenbank, Dateispeicher, Botprüfung.
- Resend (Plus Five Five, Inc., USA): Versand unserer Mails.
English version
Version privacy-2026-10-01, valid from 1 October 2026.
The short version
- Your sound is processed only on your PC. Neither audio nor measurements leave your device.
- We do not see which programs you listen to. Where program names come up technically, they are replaced before anything is sent.
- If you send us feedback, the log and the measurement file travel with it automatically. What they contain is explained under Feedback and problem reports.
- An account is optional. You do not need one to buy or activate.
- When you buy, our payment provider Link (Stripe) handles the payment as a controller in its own right. We do not see your payment details, and Link does not receive your device identifier.
- The website sets no cookies for visitors, uses no analytics services and no ad networks, and loads no fonts from third-party servers.
- We do not sell personal data.
Controller
The controller within the meaning of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR, EU 2016/679) is:
Jeremy Heindrichs (sole proprietorship)

For privacy questions, write to this address. We reply within one month (Art. 12(3) GDPR).
Principles
- Local processing: All audio processing happens on your device, not on servers.
- Data minimisation: We collect only what the purpose needs.
- Purpose limitation: Data is used only for the stated purpose.
- No selling of data: We never sell personal data.
- Honest periods: Where deletion happens automatically, we state the period. Where it does not, we state the criterion we delete by.
Which connections the app makes
These are all the connections AudioBalance makes. Anything not listed here does not happen.
Without you doing anything, shortly after start
- Update check on our server, as a fallback at GitHub (version number of the latest release).
- Beta status on our server (is the beta still running?).
- Beta registration on our server: the app reports its device identifier, possible earlier identifiers of this PC and its device proof. We create new entries only until the end of the last beta day. What happens to existing ones is under Beta registration and beta discount.
- License and trial check on our server (is there a valid license or trial for this device?).
- Messages on our server (is there a notice for this version and this access state?).
Only when you do something
- Sending feedback or a problem report
- Signing in or out, viewing license and devices, removing, adding or renaming a device
- Beta discount “Secure it with your email” (see Beta registration and beta discount)
- Activating a license or starting the trial
- Opening the pricing page (it opens in your browser, see Pricing page); for two hours the app then sends your PC’s name with the license and trial check (see Activation, license check and devices)
- Giving or changing a rating
- Downloading an update or VB-CABLE
- Anonymous statistics (once a day), extended data and AI training, only with your explicit consent, off by default
Processing in the app
Audio processing: entirely local
AudioBalance measures the loudness of your playback locally on your PC according to ITU-R BS.1770-4 and adjusts the level locally as well. No audio, no loudness measurements and no analysis data are sent to us or to third parties.
Settings and logs on your PC
AudioBalance stores your settings locally in the Windows registry. It also writes two technical files
to your application data folder (%APPDATA%\AudioBalance): the log
audiobalance.log and the measurement file telemetry.csv. You can open both
from the settings and delete them at any time. They stay on your device, with one exception: if you
send us feedback, parts of them travel with it.
Feedback and problem reports
When you write to us in the app and click “Send”, we transmit:
- your message and, if given, your name;
- your email address so we can reply; if you are signed in, the address of your account;
- app version, installation channel (website or Microsoft Store), language and, if you came from the rating page, your star rating;
- your PC’s device identifier, stored only as a one-way hash;
- the end of the log (the last 256 KB) and the end of the measurement file (the last 512 KB).
Both files travel with every report without a checkbox, because a sound problem cannot be traced without them. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR (handling your request) and Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in finding faults). If you do not want this, write to support@audio-balance.com directly and decide yourself what to attach.
What these files contain: The measurement file holds only numbers (loudness, gain, target, buffer state, ten times a second), without any names. The log holds technical events, error messages, measurements and the names of your playback devices (for example “Headphones (Sony WH-1000XM4)”), because many sound problems depend on them. It does not contain sound, images, file names, window titles, visited websites or program names: where the app records internally which program is playing sound, it replaces the name with a placeholder (“app1”, “app2”) before sending. On your PC the log stays complete.
Your report becomes a ticket with a number such as AB-260920-K7QF. We store the ticket
and the conversation in our database and the two attachments separately in a file store that
deletes them automatically after 180 days. When we reply, the mail goes through our
service provider Resend, with the ticket number in the subject.
The device identifier
Several functions need an identifier that recognises the same PC: activation and the device limit of a license, the trial (once per device), the beta discount and throttling against abuse. AudioBalance computes a 16-character identifier from features of your computer (processor type, drive serial and network address). These features themselves are not transmitted, only the computed identifier.
We do not call this identifier “anonymous” but pseudonymous: it contains no name, but it permanently designates the same device and can be linked to a person together with a license or an account. It is therefore personal data.
When a trial starts and when you activate, the app also sends two check values that recognise the same computer even after a change of network card or drive: a SHA-256 value of the identifier of your Windows installation (MachineGuid) and one of the identifier of your mainboard (SMBIOS UUID). The identifiers themselves never leave your PC. For the trial the check values make sure that each computer tests only once. On activation we store them with the device proof (see below), so that a license seat can move to a new device identifier only on the same computer.
Possible earlier identifiers. The identifier can change, for example when Windows reports the network adapters in a different order. For the beta registration the app therefore sends up to 16 identifiers that it forms from the same features of your PC, plus the beta identifier it remembered last. If one of them matches a beta entry, we note the link. We do not store the others.
Device proof. At first start AudioBalance creates a random secret and stores it protected in your Windows user account. The app sends it over the encrypted connection, never in an address: when you activate, for the license check and the beta registration, when you add this PC to your license, and when you sign in in the app or choose “Secure it with your email” (see Beta registration and beta discount). We store only a one-way check value of it, at most three per device identifier (for several Windows accounts or a reinstall of the app), with the time of first and last contact and the last seen check values of the two computer identifiers (see above). They tell us whether a further proof comes from the same computer. The proof tells us that a request comes from the same installation. So nobody who only knows your device identifier can fetch your beta code, link your account or take over your license seat. If the device identifier of a licensed PC changes and both the proof and the computer match, we move its seat to the new identifier. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR (license) and Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (protection against abuse).
Account and sign-in
An account is optional. If you create one, we store: email address, an optional display name, your password only as a salted hash (PBKDF2-HMAC-SHA256 with an additional server key, never in plain text), the time of sign-up, the country from your connection’s country code, the language, the app version and the device identifier of the PC you signed up from. We also keep a record of your consent with time and the version of this policy (Art. 7(1) GDPR).
You can sign in in the app and on the pricing page. This creates a session valid for seven days. When you open the “License & devices” page in the app, it is extended. The database holds only a hash of the sign-in key, the country code and a shortened description of your program or browser. If you remove a device from your license, we end the sign-ins of that device, unless it removed itself. If you wish, the app remembers your password in the Windows Credential Manager; this happens only on your device. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR.
Activation, license check and devices
When you activate AudioBalance, the app sends your email address, the activation code, the device identifier, the app version and the language, plus the device proof and the two check values of the computer identifiers (see The device identifier). We link the proof to this license seat, so that the seat can follow a new device identifier. For the license we store which devices are activated, when they were activated and last checked, the app version and the country from the connection’s country code. For the license check the app sends the device identifier, the app version and the language, plus the device proof. If it activated a license before, it also sends the activation proof issued back then, so that we find that license without the code being typed again. The app asks at start, then every 6 hours, after the PC wakes up, when the network is back, when you open the “License & devices” page and, while the lock screen or the wait for a payment is visible, more often for at most 30 minutes, at first every 20 seconds. So that the app can later check its license with the device identifier alone, we also store which email address a device identifier belongs to. This link is deleted automatically 400 days after the last activation.
The purpose is to keep the device limit (3 or 5 devices) and to block a license after a refund, a chargeback, a withdrawal or the end of a subscription. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR (contract).
If you remove a device, we note with its device identifier for 90 days that it was removed. During that time it is locked and starts no new trial until you add it again. We record removing, adding and moving a seat with the time, so we can answer questions and limit removals (§ 8 of the terms). Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) and (f) GDPR.
When you open the “License & devices” page in the app, the app sends the name of your Windows computer once (for example “DESKTOP-4F7A”) so you can tell your devices apart. This name is deleted automatically 400 days after it was last saved; renaming resets the period. You can rename or release a device there at any time.
When you start a purchase in the app, the app also sends the same name with the license and trial check for two hours. We store it only while we issue this PC a purchase key (see Pricing page), so the purchase email, the thank-you page and your device list can tell you which PC was unlocked. This name too is deleted automatically 400 days after its last change. If the purchase goes through, it is also kept with the order, as long as the purchase data. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR.
Without an account you can release a device on the page “Remove a PC” (audio-balance.com/konto-geraete). When you enter the email address of your purchase and your activation code there, the page shows you the active devices of this license with their name and last check. Email address and code go only to our server; the page keeps them only while the tab is open, never in the address bar or in your browser’s storage. We record the release with the time as above. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR.
Trial
When you start the free trial, we store the device identifier, start and end of the trial, the app version and the country from the connection’s country code. Purpose: each device can try only once. If support unlocks a trial for you, we also store the reason. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR. How long we keep this is under Storage periods.
So that nobody repeats the trial with ever new identifiers, we also store, for every start, a check value of the network it came from (IPv4 address cut to its first three blocks, IPv6 address to its first four and its first three blocks) and one check value of each of the two computer identifiers (see The device identifier). All check values are made with a secret server key and match nothing outside our server. We delete the network values after 30 days and the computer values after 12 months. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in preventing abuse of the free trial).
Beta registration and beta discount
While the beta runs and until the end of its last day (23:59:59 Belgian time), our server stores the device identifier when the app starts, together with the time of first and last contact, the app version and a country code from Cloudflare geolocation (for example “BE”). The IP address itself is not stored; name and email address are not collected. So that we can spot unusual clusters (many new devices from one network), we also store a check value of the network the registration came from (shortened IP address, formed with a secret server key). After the last beta day we create no new entries. The beta list is also kept in our database so that it can be backed up. For each entry we form a beta code of the form BETA-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX once, which the app shows you. It only unlocks the beta price.
If the identifier of your device has changed, the app sends possible earlier identifiers (see The device identifier). If one of them matches a beta entry, we note the link, also after the end of the beta. If we refuse a registration because too many new devices came from your network at that moment, we remember the identifier and the time of the first attempt, so that a later registration still counts. We delete these attempts 7 days after the end of the beta.
The purpose is running the beta and the beta discount: when you later buy your first one-time license, this entry tells us that your device took part in the beta, and we grant 50% off. The discount applies once per beta user; your device and an account linked to this device share it. So that it is granted only once, we store with the order which device identifier or which account it was used for and how we recognised you (app, earlier identifier, beta code, account, manual unlock or personal link).
If you create an account on a beta device or sign in to the app there, we note this device identifier on your account, also after the end of the beta. After the end this works only with the device proof. A device can link only one account this way. If you click “Secure it with your email” in the app, the app uses its device proof to fetch a key that is valid for 30 minutes and only once, and opens the page for creating an account with it. The key is in the address but does not reveal your device identifier. We store only a check value of it and delete it automatically about one day after it was used or expired.
If we do not recognise you, you can write to us; we then check the details in your message and unlock the discount manually. For this we store your email address, the reason and the time and, where applicable, a personal link, of which we store only a check value. If we refund you a difference to the beta price, we store amount, time, reason and order as long as the purchase data. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in running the beta and in granting the promised discount correctly and only once), for order and refund Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR.
We keep entries whose discount has not been used until it is used, until you ask for deletion or until we end the beta offer. We announce such an end at least 6 months in advance. After the discount is used we cut the entry down to device identifier, beta code and the time of first contact; we then delete last contact, version, country and network check value. We keep the shortened entry as long as the purchase data. If you ask for deletion, we remove the entry, its earlier identifiers and its link to an account. The discount can then no longer be recognised automatically for this device. If the beta is still running at that time, AudioBalance registers your device again at its next start; uninstall the app first if you do not want that.
Messages in the app
The app checks at start and then every six hours whether there is a notice for you, also after the PC wakes up, when the network is back and after a failed check. It sends the app version, installation channel, language and your access state (beta, trial, license or expired) so you only see matching messages. Which message you have viewed is remembered on your device and not reported back. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR.
Rating
If you give stars, we store the number of stars, an optional comment, app version, installation channel, language, country and a hash of your device identifier. The hash makes a later rating replace your earlier one. The rating is pseudonymous, not anonymous. We do not publish individual ratings. Clicking a star also opens the Microsoft Store rating page; what you write there falls under Microsoft’s privacy statement. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR.
Update check and status request
At start the app asks whether the beta is still running and which release is the latest. It asks our server for both; if our server cannot be reached, it asks GitHub for the latest release. The server involved technically sees your IP address; we do not store it. Updates are also downloaded from GitHub. After a successful update the app reports only the version number as an anonymous counter. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR.
VB-CABLE
For automatic regulation AudioBalance uses VB-CABLE by VB-Audio Software (France). If you download it through the app or the installer, the file comes directly from VB-Audio, whose server sees your IP address. We receive nothing from this.
Anonymous statistics
Once a day AudioBalance reports aggregated figures: app version, Windows version, language, a country code derived from your time zone, the number of app starts and crashes, and usage time in minutes. On our server these only end up as totals, without any link to a device or person. They do not include name, email address, device identifier or anything about which programs you use or what you listen to. Purpose: finding crashes and bugs and seeing which versions are in use.
Statistics are off by default and only run if you tick “Send anonymous usage statistics” at first start or switch them on in the app settings under “Statistics”. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR (consent). You can withdraw it at any time: untick “Statistics” in the app settings and sending stops immediately.
Extended data and AI training (only with consent)
At first start, or later in the settings, you can allow two more items. Both are off by default.
- Extended data: app and Windows version, session length, preferred mode, number of mode changes, average gain and loudness, processor type, core count and memory, plus, as a number, whether Windows had set the virtual cable as a microphone or for calls and what AudioBalance then did (no device names), together with a pseudonymous identifier derived from your device identifier. Purpose: improving the regulation across different PCs.
- AI training: loudness and gain curves per session as plain number series, with start and length of the session, together with the same pseudonymous identifier. No sound, no content, no program names. Purpose: training the regulation's AI model.
Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR (consent). You can withdraw each of them separately at any time: untick “Extended data” or “AI training” in the app settings and sending stops immediately.
One-time survey (optional)
During setup AudioBalance asks once how you heard about the app. If you answer, we store the answer, any short free text, app version, language, country code and time, without device identifier, email address or IP address. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR.
Protection against abuse
So that nobody floods our servers or tries out passwords and activation codes, we briefly remember where requests came from: a shortened prefix of your IP address, for sign-in, creating an account, resetting the password, activation, releasing a device without an account (“Remove a PC”), withdrawal and cancellation also the email address entered, and for reports from the app the hash of the device identifier. These entries are usually deleted after 24 hours. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR.
Purchase and payment
When you buy a license on our website, you conclude the contract with us. Payment is handled for us by Sold through Link, LLC (“Link”), a Stripe company, in its own name. Link and Stripe collect your payment, billing and contact details themselves and are controllers in their own right for them; Link’s privacy policy applies. We do not see your card or account details. We are the controller for the order, the license and the software.
From Link we receive (source under Art. 14(2)(f) GDPR): order number, email address, country, variant, billing type, price, tax, discount, date, status (paid, refunded, charged back) and, for a subscription, the billing period. We store this together with our own order number, the license, the language of the order and Link’s message about the payment. If something about a payment does not match, such as the amount or a beta discount that was already used, we hold the purchase with a review note and alert ourselves with the order number. After the review you get the activation code, or the full price is refunded to you.
Purpose: providing the license, support, arranging refunds through Link, subscription management, bookkeeping. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR (contract) and Art. 6(1)(c) GDPR (statutory retention duties). We keep accounting records for 7 years (Art. III.86 Belgian Code of Economic Law) and records relevant for VAT for 10 years.
We do not pass your device identifier to Link. Link receives from us only a technical order reference, product, price and language and, if we already know it, your email address for pre-filling. Stripe also processes data in the USA; the transfer is based on the EU-US Data Privacy Framework (Art. 45 GDPR) and the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses (Art. 46 GDPR).
Processing on the website
Hosting (Cloudflare Pages)
This website runs on Cloudflare Pages (Cloudflare, Inc., USA). When you visit, Cloudflare processes technically necessary connection data such as IP address, time and requested address to deliver the page and protect it from attacks. We keep no server logs of our own. Our database is in the EU region; the file store for problem report attachments is replicated worldwide and cannot be limited to the EU. The transfer to the USA is based on the adequacy decision for the EU-US Data Privacy Framework (Art. 45 GDPR). Details: Cloudflare privacy policy. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR.
Fonts
The fonts of this website are served from our own server. There is no connection to Google Fonts or any other third party.
Pricing page
If you open the pricing page from within AudioBalance, the app adds the device identifier and a purchase key valid for two hours to the address, so we can recognise a beta discount and unlock this PC by itself after the purchase. The page removes both from the address bar at once and sends them to our server only for the discount check and when you buy. When you buy, we store the device identifier with the order to unlock exactly this PC after the payment. We tell you the name of this PC in the purchase email and on the thank-you page, if we know it, so you can see which PC was unlocked. Where we know it from and how long we keep it is under Activation, license check and devices. If you enter a beta code on the pricing page, we send it to our server only to check it. If you open a personal beta link, the page removes its key from the address bar at once as well. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR.
Until you close the tab, your browser’s session storage (sessionStorage) holds the device identifier, the purchase key (two hours at most), the order secret and the price details of your order for the thank-you page, and the details My account hands to the cancellation form. Your sign-in stays in your browser’s local storage (localStorage) until you sign out, for 7 days at most, so you are signed in on every page. The website also keeps your language choice there. The pricing and legal pages use no cookies and no tracking. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR (steps at your request before a contract).
Withdrawal and cancellation
If you use “Withdraw from contract” or “Cancel contracts here”, we store what you enter in the form (name, email address, order number or activation code, order date, message, and for a cancellation the type, reason and timing), the language, the country from your connection’s country code and the time of receipt, plus a reference to the matching license. If the details match a license with a different email address, we also send a notice to the license’s address. After a withdrawal we arrange the refund through Link.
Purpose: evidence and handling of your declaration and the acknowledgement of receipt. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(c) GDPR where a law requires the acknowledgement (such as § 356a or § 312k of the German Civil Code for customers in Germany), and also Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR (handling your contract) and Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in being able to prove that and when your declaration arrived).
Bot check (Cloudflare Turnstile)
On the pages for creating an account, resetting a password, withdrawing and cancelling we use
Cloudflare Turnstile so that programs cannot use these forms in bulk. Your browser loads a script from
challenges.cloudflare.com; Cloudflare receives your IP address and technical features of
your browser. Turnstile sets no advertising cookies and builds no usage profile across websites. Legal
basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. You can also send a withdrawal or cancellation by email to
support@audio-balance.com instead.
Download from the Microsoft Store and GitHub
Downloads from the Microsoft Store fall under Microsoft’s privacy statement. We deliver the signed direct installer through GitHub Releases; GitHub, Inc. (USA) processes your IP address and usual connection data. GitHub is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework. Details: GitHub Privacy Statement.
Anonymous download counters
If you click the download button on the website, we count the click as an anonymous daily counter (date and version number), without IP address and without any link to a person.
No tracking, no analytics
We use no Google Analytics, no Facebook Pixel and no other tracking or analytics services. There is no cross-site tracking and there are no ad networks.
Contact by email
If you email us, we store name, email address and content to handle your request. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR, for questions about a purchase Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR.
Emails from us
We send mail through Resend (Plus Five Five, Inc., USA): confirmation codes, replies to reports, the license mail after a purchase with activation code, terms and withdrawal instructions (again on request), acknowledgements of withdrawals and cancellations, notices about your purchase and subscription (cancellation, end, refund, partial refund, failed payment, restored license) and notices about the beta discount (personal link, refunded difference). Resend processes the recipient address and the content of the mail on our behalf. Resend is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework (Art. 45 GDPR); the EU Commission’s standard contractual clauses apply in addition. For each mail we store recipient, subject, time and success or failure so we can trace a mail that did not arrive. If sending fails, we try again. If a mail comes back as undeliverable, we note this and can correct the address after checking with you. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) and (c) GDPR.
If you have a confirmed account, we send you one email before the end of the beta with the date and the note that your beta discount stays. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in informing you about your discount). You can object to this at any time; a short email to support@audio-balance.com is enough. We do not send advertising.

We pass your data only to these parties:

- Cloudflare, Inc. (USA/EU): hosting, database, file store, bot check.
- Resend (Plus Five Five, Inc., USA): sending our mail.
- Microsoft: only for downloads from the Microsoft Store and for a Store rating.
- GitHub, Inc. (USA): update check and installer download.
- VB-Audio Software (France): only when downloading VB-CABLE.
Cookies and browser storage
The website sets no cookies for visitors, not even when you sign in. Only the internal administration area uses a technically necessary session cookie. Your browser’s local storage holds your language choice and, if you sign in, your sign-in (until you sign out, 7 days at most); session storage holds the items described under Pricing page. A cookie banner is therefore not needed. The app itself uses no cookies.
